Today: Memphis, TN to Louisville, KY

After another good breakfast at the Drury Inn, we loaded up and hit the road again. The plan was to drive long and hard to reach the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site south of Louisville, KY, but we picked up a tourism guide magazine at one of the rest stops and ended up taking a detour...

...Melissa was filpping through the pages of the magazine and came across Cooter's Place. How could we not stop and take the boys there? After all, they *have* been watching episodes of Dukes of Hazzard off and on since we left. Besides, it sounded like a very "Route 66" thing to see - and that keeps with the spirit of the trip, right? ;) (i wanted to see it too)

Here's Jaron in the General Lee they had on display...

...and Jaden...They had quite a bit of great memorabilia from and about the show - especially for a "free" exhibit. Besides "the General", there were also full-size replicas (not sure of authenticity) of Daisy's Jeep and a Deputy's car.

OK now, who didn't want or have a pair of "Dukes" underoos? That and the "credible" Hulk would be at the top of my list back then... awesome! (i wonder if those come in a 32?)

...Melissa posing with the General...
After we had our fill of Dukes of Hazzard memories and souvenirs, we climbed back on the Interstate and set the cruise. Soon, we had made it to another state line...

Here we are in Kentucky! It's a good time of year to visit here because the weather is not too hot (compared to Texas), the wheat is just ready to be harvested, and all of the other crops are green. It makes for some beautiful pictures as taken below by Melissa...
Since we stopped at Cooter's we were a little too late to make it to the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Memorial. We drove up just as the guard was closing the gates, but he told us that we could see the "boyhood cabin" exhibit as long as it was daylight. Nothing at this place is original to when he lived there, but the place was nice and had a good replica cabin on the site.
The city near both exhibits had a nice display on the traffic circle:

As we go North, the gasoline gets more expensive...

Just before we got to our Hotel, we were all hungry. Since none of us had ever had fresh (not frozen) ones, we stopped for White Castle Burgers. We got a bag of 20 and 4 orders of fries. We had 6 left. Even with no onions, they were very oniony. Not really my thing but the kids seemed to like them. Jaden ate 5. :)

We checked into the LaQuinta and settled in for the night. Another long day of driving tomorrow! Until then, happy trails!
